Called by Name at Age Eight

My first direct experience of the Lord happened in September 1969, when I was eight. I had suffered deeply from abandonment. Around 3 a.m., at my aunt's house, the Lord woke me and called me by my name. I knew instantly it was Him — there is no other voice like His. When you hear it, you just know. He told me to put on my shoes and walk out into the field, because He wanted to speak to me.

That night changed everything. As years passed and life got hard, the memory faded some. But when I drew closer to God, He always drew closer to me. If you'd like to hear more about that night in the field, I'm happy to share when you call.

Early Struggles and Sobriety

By high school and college I drifted, and drank and got high through most of those years. After I graduated college in 1983 it all crashed down. I hit bottom and sobered up in 1984. Since then I've had many years of sobriety, with some relapses — but I've always come back to Christ, repentant.

From Deception to Dedication

I've had spiritual experiences most of my life, beginning around age ten. I never practiced black magic, but I did fall into the sin of divination and became quite adept at it, not realising it was sin. I have renounced that completely and turned my back on it. I give my gifts to the Lord now.

I do not channel spirits or attempt to contact the dead. Today I use discernment under the Holy Spirit — never fortune telling. I won't use tarot cards or numerology.

Brokenness, Repentance, and Miracles

In October 2014 I survived devastating injuries. The years of suffering that followed brought me to my knees. For three and a half years I sought the Lord in tearful repentance, praying for hours every day.

February 2018 was a great awakening. It was as if scales fell from my eyes, and I knew my experience at age eight was real. Then in March 2019, around 3 a.m., the Lord woke me and called me by name again — just as He had when I was eight. He put His hand on my heart and gave me a new heart. Since that night, the pain and trauma of my entire life were simply gone. That was a miracle, and I have dedicated the rest of my life to the Lord since.

Background

I grew up in Milwaukee and Chicago, and lived in Spain, France, and Mexico for two and a half years. I speak English and Spanish fluently and good French. I later changed careers into information technology and worked for many years as a mainframe programmer/analyst. I am now retired and live in a small town in the Bible Belt.
